THE TEMPEST

| Our story begins twelve years after Prospero's exile. A ship carrying Antonio, Alonso, the King of Naples (who had conspired with Antonio in the overthrow of Prosperio), Alonso's sister, Sebastiana, and son, Ferdinand, along with various sailors and servants including Stephano the butler and Trinculo the jester, sails past Prospero's island on its way from Tunis in North Africa to Naples. Prospero raises a storm - the tempest - through the power of his magic, and wrecks their ship. The passengers are all saved, but Ferdinand is washed ashore in a different part of the island from his companions, and so believes himself to be the sole survivor, while they in turn believe him to be dead. Prospero's plans unfold with the aid of the spirit Ariel... |
